86 test positive after QC food distribution event

At least 86 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a food distribution event in Quezon City's Barangay Matandang Balara on May 25.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said that out of the 953 people who were tested, 86 came back positive.

Belmonte noted that five areas in the barangay have been placed under lockdown for two weeks and residents will be provided assistance by the city government.

Despite being cleared of health protocol violations by the QC Police District, Belmonte believes the event was a superspreader due to crowding and disregard of social distancing.
