Rolly damages 770 schools, 660 used as evacuation centers

At least 770 schools nationwide have been damaged by Super Typhoon Rolly, with 660 serving as evacuation centers for displaced residents.

Of the damaged schools, 581 are located in Region 5 (Bicol), and 440 of the evacuation centers are also in Bicol.

Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan stated that funds are ready for cleanup and minor repairs but major damages require assessment by local engineers before budget submission.

On Tuesday, DepEd reported 226 damaged public schools and 7,169 damaged learning materials across seven regions, with an estimated PHP489.5 million needed for reconstruction and rehabilitation.
