Senators back ECQ extension in high-risk areas

Several senators supported President Duterte's decision to extend the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas until May 15.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian stated that extending ECQ buys time for the government to enhance testing capabilities, preventing further spread of COVID-19.

Gatchalian also suggested easing restrictions over low-risk areas with zero cases to allow small businesses to operate gradually.

Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto and Senator Panfilo Lacson echoed support for the extension, emphasizing the need for mass testing, isolation, treatment, and investment in healthcare.
