House appoints 11 lawmakers as VP Duterte's impeachment prosecutors

The House of Representatives has appointed 11 lawmakers as prosecutors in the historic impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Lawmakers with legal backgrounds and Philippine Bar membership will defend the House's decision to impeach Duterte before the Senate, which requires a two-thirds vote for conviction.

Prosecutors aim to prove multiple allegations against Duterte, including betrayal of public trust, constitutional violations, and graft and corruption.

A key focus is the alleged misuse of confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.

The case was endorsed by 71% of House members, with 215 representatives signing off on the fourth impeachment complaint against her, exceeding the required threshold to proceed even during congressional breaks.
