Lawmakers criticize VP Sara's 'cavalier attitude' on impeachment

Several House lawmakers expressed their dismay over Vice President Sara Duterte's 'cavalier attitude' during her press conference following her impeachment earlier this week.

Lawmakers from the Young Guns bloc, including Taguig 2nd District Rep. Amparo Maria Zamora and Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Raul Angelo Bongalon, criticized Duterte for reinforcing perceptions that she is anxious about the upcoming trial with her dismissive remarks.

Vice President Duterte responded to the impeachment with a simple 'God save the Philippines' while maintaining a light-hearted demeanor, which lawmakers like Perci Cendaña and Arlene Brosas found deeply ironic given the allegations of public fund misuse.

Representatives Pammy Zamora, Jil Bongalon, Paolo Ortega, and Jay Khonghun emphasized that Duterte's attempt at nonchalance cannot mask the reality of the situation, stating her statements reflected an underlying fear poorly disguised as indifference.

Impeachment prosecutor Joel Chua stated readiness for the Senate Impeachment Court proceedings, urging the Senate to act swiftly by forming an impeachment court to fulfill its constitutional role with a transparent and fair trial.
