Zamboanga del Sur confirms first two COVID-19 cases

Zamboanga del Sur confirmed its first two COVID-19 cases on March 30, 2020, with both patients testing positive from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

The first confirmed case is a 52-year-old male from Labangan with travel history from Taguig City, Metro Manila, who returned on March 14 and was admitted to the isolation ward on March 17.

The second case is a 62-year-old female resident of Pagadian City with travel history from Manila, arriving on March 7 and admitted on March 19.

Both patients are reported to be physically and clinically stable.

The provincial government has initiated contact tracing for both confirmed cases.

Prior to the confirmation, Zamboanga del Sur had six patients under investigation (PUI) admitted to the hospital out of 74 total PUIs.

The province also reported 5,002 persons under monitoring (PUMs) as of Sunday, with 923 having completed their 14-day quarantine.
