Zamboanga City confirms first COVID-19 case, ZP01

Zamboanga City has confirmed its first case of COVID-19, identified as ZP01, a 29-year-old male resident of Barangay Sinunuc.

He arrived in Zamboanga City on March 13, 2020, from Metro Manila via an early morning flight and was admitted to a designated COVID-19 hospital.

After experiencing symptoms, ZP01 sought consultation at a private hospital on March 16 and was advised to undergo home quarantine.

His swab samples were sent to the RITM for testing, and the positive result was received on Tuesday afternoon, March 24.

The patient's health condition is reportedly improving.

Relatives living with ZP01 are asymptomatic and have been isolated at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University-Lantaka campus for a 14-day quarantine.

Contact tracing is underway, and a lockdown is in place in the subdivision where ZP01 resides.

The city has also recorded the death of a 57-year-old woman, a person under investigation (PUI) with diabetes and travel history to the UK, while awaiting her test results.
