Zamboanga drug war nets over P1.1B shabu in August

Three suspects were arrested in Zamboanga City during an intensified anti-drug campaign in August, which resulted in the seizure of over PHP1.1 billion worth of illegal drugs.

The biggest drug haul occurred on August 31 in Barangay Rio Hondo, where 89 kilograms of suspected shabu valued at P605,200,000 were seized from three suspects, Baser Arail Onggo, John Michael Tagaya Mosquera, and Addil Al-Shareif Arajil.

These suspects were apprehended following a pursuit operation after they evaded a checkpoint.

Other significant drug seizures in August include PHP455.6 million worth of shabu from a suspected drug trader in Barangay Bunguiao on August 19, PHP27.2 million worth of illegal drugs from a former soldier in Barangay Canelar on the same date, and PHP13.6 million worth of suspected shabu from two suspects in Barangay Baliwasan on August 15.

The confiscated drugs were turned over to Zamboanga City Forensic Unit 9 for examination.

PRO 9 chief Police Brigadier General Eleazar Matta commended the personnel involved and stated their commitment to eradicating illegal drugs in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
