Tuguegarao City to return to MECQ due to COVID-19 surge

Tuguegarao City will revert to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) starting October 3 for 14 days, pending approval from the governor and regional IATF, due to a surge in COVID-19 cases with local transmission reported in 19 villages.

Mayor Jefferson Soriano stated that the city has 82 active cases and is averaging five to seven new cases daily, indicating community transmission.

Local transmissions have been linked to a drinking session in Barangay Cataggaman Viejo and a COVID-19 positive non-uniformed worker at the Tuguegarao City police station.

This is the second time Tuguegarao City has been placed under MECQ this year, with the previous period from August 26 to September 5.

The city logged its third COVID-19 casualty, a 72-year-old woman with comorbidities who died after an eight-day confinement at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

The local government will temporarily ban returning residents unless they have a certificate of acceptance, and establishments will be allowed to open at 20% capacity.
