Bacolod City is set to transition to a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) status on October 1, moving from a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
The decision was announced by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia had formally appealed for the downgrade in a letter to Duque on September 28, citing the city's implemented measures to curb COVID-19 transmission.
These measures include strategic community mass testing, with 22,645 tests conducted to date, followed by daily targeted testing.
Aggressive contact tracing operations have also been implemented with the launch of the Bacolod City contact tracing system (BaCTrac).
The city has also worked on expanding healthcare facilities by increasing quarantine and isolation beds and hiring more health workers.
