NCR needs another month before shifting to MGCQ: Lorenzana
Metro Manila, Batangas province, Tacloban City, Iloilo City, and Iligan City will remain under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) until October 31.
Lanao del Sur, including Marawi City, will stay under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) due to a spike in coronavirus cases.
The rest of the country will be under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana believes Metro Manila could be downgraded into MGCQ within a month, stating that some local government units (LGUs) prefer to continue with GCQ for sustained prevention efforts.
Lorenzana also noted that some LGUs are hesitant to loosen restrictions due to fears of returning to MECQ.
Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año emphasized the need to strengthen efforts to put Covid-19 patients in isolation facilities while Metro Manila remains under GCQ.
On September 28, the Department of Health reported 3,073 new COVID-19 infections, 37 new deaths, and 163 new recoveries.
