Rep. urges use of P27B fund for Odette victims

Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez urged the government to utilize PHP27 billion from the newly signed 2022 national budget to aid victims of Typhoon Odette.

This available funding is comprised of a PHP7-billion contingency fund and a PHP20-billion national disaster risk reduction and management fund.

Rodriguez highlighted the urgent need for assistance to help affected communities in Mindanao, Visayas, and Southern Luzon rebuild their homes, livelihoods, and lives.

He noted that President Duterte had pledged at least PHP10 billion for typhoon-devastated areas, with some of this already released from the 2021 budget.

Rodriguez expects the Department of Budget and Management to disburse additional funds from the 2022 budget by the following Monday now that it has been signed into law.

The solon emphasized that the PHP10 billion pledge is insufficient, and billions more will be required for reconstruction efforts.
