PRC opens molecular testing center to fight COVID-19

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has opened a molecular testing center at its national headquarters on EDSA to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

The new PRC Molecular Laboratory is equipped with two testing machines, each capable of processing up to 1,500 tests daily.

Senator Richard Gordon, PRC chairman and CEO, highlighted the importance of early detection and isolation to reduce human-to-human transmission.

The PRC is coordinating with four Metro Manila LGUs—Quezon City, Caloocan, Makati, and Mandaluyong—which will cover the testing costs for their residents.

Swabbing will be done in barangays by trained personnel, with samples transported to the laboratory for analysis.

The public can also avail of testing by appointment by calling the PRC's COVID hotline at 1158, ensuring social distancing measures are maintained.

PRC staff and volunteers, including doctors, will conduct initial interviews and schedule testing or refer individuals to appropriate hospitals.
