PRC opens 3rd COVID-19 testing lab

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) now has three COVID-19 testing laboratories in Metro Manila.

These facilities are capable of processing up to 12,000 coronavirus tests per day.

The PRC's Mandaluyong headquarters houses one operational laboratory with four polymerase chain reaction machines, each capable of 1,000 tests daily.

Two additional laboratories, located in another PRC office in Mandaluyong and in Intramuros, Manila, are awaiting accreditation from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

PRC chairman Richard Gordon highlighted the importance of testing for identifying and isolating the virus to facilitate a return to normal business operations.

He also expressed gratitude for the support from various business groups, international organizations, and the Australian government.

The Ayala Group of Companies assisted in the retrofitting of the molecular laboratories.
