PNP monitors over 900 personnel for COVID-19

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is currently monitoring 76 personnel as persons under investigation (PUIs) and 905 as persons under monitoring (PUMs) for COVID-19.

PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Bernard Banac confirmed these figures reflect the entire police organization as of March 26.

A PUI exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 and may have had exposure or travel history to affected areas, requiring hospital admission.

Meanwhile, a PUM has no symptoms but has a relevant travel history or exposure, necessitating a 14-day self-quarantine and monitoring.

Two active-duty police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 and are under close observation by PNP doctors.

To curb the spread of the virus, a walk-through decontamination station has been established at Camp Crame for disinfecting all individuals entering the national headquarters.

This decontamination process includes tire baths for vehicles and misting tents for occupants, followed by temperature checks.

The PNP's biosafety plan also emphasizes the proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste, such as used personal protective equipment.

Banac clarified that two recently deceased PNP personnel did not die from COVID-19; their deaths were attributed to other medical conditions after testing negative for the virus.
