Death toll from NPA ambush in Occidental Mindoro rises to 3
Authorities are conducting a manhunt for New People's Army (NPA) rebels responsible for an ambush in Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro, that resulted in the deaths of three police officers and injuries to nine others.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar condemned the attack as "barbaric" and "cowardly."
The slain officers were identified as Master Sgt. Jonathan Alvarez, Staff Sgt. Nolito Develos, and Cpl. Stan Gonggora.
Six of the nine injured officers remain hospitalized, while three have already been discharged.
General Eleazar assured the families of the deceased that justice will be served and pledged to provide necessary assistance to both the bereaved families and the wounded police personnel.
