5 suspected NPA members killed in Bohol clashes

Five suspected New People's Army (NPA) members, identified as belonging to the Bohol Party Committee (BPC), were killed in two consecutive clashes with military troops in Barangay Cabacnitan, Bilar, Bohol on May 25, 2021.

The encounters occurred when Philippine Army 47th Infantry Battalion troops encountered approximately 11 suspected NPA members during a security patrol, acting on a report from a concerned citizen.

The first gunfight lasted for 10 minutes, with three alleged rebels initially killed.

A second encounter occurred shortly after as soldiers pursued the retreating rebels.

One soldier was wounded during the clashes and is in stable condition.

Authorities recovered assorted firearms and ammunition from the rebels.

Fifty-four families from 42 houses in the area were evacuated to ensure their safety.
