PNP records 200 new COVID-19 cases, 66 deaths

The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded 200 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total infections in the organization to 23,571.

A police officer from Zamboanga City is the PNP's latest fatality from the coronavirus disease 2019, raising its death toll to 66.

The deceased, a 52-year-old police captain, tested positive for COVID-19 on May 1 and was immediately brought to a hospital.

He was transferred to the intensive care unit on May 18 and was intubated due to difficulty in breathing, eventually dying on Sunday.

PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar expressed condolences to the family and urged police officers to be doubly careful, reminding them that check-ups are free.

The PNP Health Service noted 184 new recoveries, bringing the total number of police officers who have recovered from COVID-19 to 21,766.
