Marcos Jr. orders sustained relief efforts for Mindanao quake victims

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. instructed government officials to maintain uninterrupted relief operations for victims of the Mindanao earthquake.

While in Hawaii, Marcos convened a Zoom meeting with key cabinet members including the Defense Secretary and Health Secretary to receive updates on the ongoing relief efforts.

He specifically asked for vigilance regarding aftershocks, emphasizing that casualties can occur from these subsequent tremors.

Marcos also cautioned officials against the spread of misinformation, particularly concerning potential tsunami threats, and advised them to keep monitoring the situation until tremors subside to ensure the safety of those involved in relief work.

House Deputy Majority Leader for Communications and ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo stated that Congress will work closely with the Department of Public Works and Highways to ensure the rehabilitation of infrastructures destroyed during the 6.8 magnitude quake.

The initial estimate for rehabilitation in Sarangani alone is PHP200 million, with hundreds of millions of pesos needed for affected areas in General Santos City and Davao Occidental.
