Palace to speed up COVID-19 test results for repatriated OFWs

Malacañang will expedite the processing and release of COVID-19 test results for repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to free up quarantine facilities and accommodate new arrivals.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that this move is important due to limited hotel rooms for OFWs awaiting their polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results.

Roque will press concerned agencies, particularly the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), to hasten the release of these results.

The National Task Force Covid-19 Chief Implementer, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., warned that the arrival of some 42,000 returning migrant workers could overwhelm the country's patient care centers.

The President shares the concern over the delayed results, recognizing the OFWs' desire to return home after losing their jobs.

All returning OFWs are mandated to undergo a 14-day quarantine and a COVID-19 test upon arrival in the Philippines.
