OVP ready for any 2026 budget outcome, spokesperson says

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is prepared for any budget outcome from Congress for 2026, with spokesperson Ruth Castelo stating they will "do whatever needs to be done" regardless of the amount approved.

The OVP's proposed budget for 2026 is P902.8 million, representing a 21% increase from its P744 million budget in 2025.

Last year, the OVP's budget was reduced by Congress, and the budget hearings were marked by disagreements between Vice President Sara Duterte and lawmakers regarding confidential funds.

Despite the proposed increase for 2026, several OVP programs, including medical and burial assistance, and student nutrition programs, remain unfunded.

Historically, the OVP, along with the Office of the President, has enjoyed courtesy approval for their budgets, though this practice has faced criticism for potentially bypassing thorough scrutiny.
