PBBM orders zero tolerance for dubious budget insertions

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed a "zero tolerance" approach for dubious insertions and duplicate allocations in the proposed 2026 national budget.

This directive follows the discovery of allocations for already completed projects within the 2026 National Expenditure Program (NEP) by lawmakers.

President Marcos emphasized that the budget is intended for the Filipino people and national projects, not for extraneous insertions.

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman echoed the President's sentiment, expressing annoyance over the issue and referencing Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno's allegations.

Secretary Pangandaman also confirmed speaking with Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon regarding the review of potentially anomalous flood-control projects to prevent future occurrences.

Lawmakers have been advised to coordinate with agencies like the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to validate project statuses before including them in budget proposals.
