NCR granular lockdowns reach 83 areas

The number of areas in the National Capital Region under granular lockdown has risen to 83 from 82, as reported by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

These lockdown areas are located in 53 barangays across Metro Manila.

The granular lockdowns are implemented on various scales, including 38 houses, 20 residential buildings, 13 subdivisions or villages, six streets, and six residential building floors.

Local government units (LGUs) retain the authority to decide on the imposition and lifting of these granular lockdowns.

The PNP has deployed 238 personnel and 220 force multipliers to ensure security and compliance with health standards in these areas.

The Metro Manila Council previously stated that a single COVID-19 case could warrant a lockdown on a house or condominium floor, while two cases would be sufficient for an entire street.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantines implemented in 'critical zones' identified by LGUs, typically targeting areas with high infection rates.
