NBI to file charges vs 5 fake news peddlers
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to file charges against at least five individuals involved in spreading fake news about COVID-19.
NBI Cybercrime Division Chief Victor Lorenzo stated that charges would be filed after the legal section evaluates the evidence, with confidence that this would be completed by Monday for filing before the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The NBI's investigation into fake news is being conducted under Department Order No. 52, issued by Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.

The investigation is conducted under Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, with the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act also imposing penalties for spreading fake news.
