36k OFWs repatriated amid COVID-19 crisis –DFA
The Philippine government has repatriated over 36,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) due to the COVID-19 crisis as of June 7.
Of the total repatriated, 22,198 were sea-based workers, primarily from cruise ships, and 14,533 were land-based.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) does not differentiate between documented and undocumented workers in its repatriation efforts.
The DFA has recorded 5,392 COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, with most cases reported in the Middle East.
Among the recorded COVID-19 cases abroad, 2,791 are currently undergoing treatment, 2,231 have recovered, and 370 have died.
