Filipino designers create PPEs for frontliners

Filipino fashion designers and brands are contributing to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic by producing surgical masks and personal protective equipment for donation to frontliners.

Several prominent designers, including Patty Ang, Puey Quinones, Michael Leyva, and Rajo Laurel, are actively involved in sewing and crafting these essential items.

Designer Mich Dulce has initiated the Manila Protective Gear Sewing Club to mobilize the fashion industry in creating masks and suits.

Power Fashion Inc. has partnered with the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute to manufacture 500,000 reusable masks.

Michael Leyva personally cut and sewed PPE suits and, accompanied by actress Angel Locsin, distributed them to frontliners, including uplifting messages and Bible verses.

Angel Locsin has also been actively involved in providing relief for frontliners, raising close to P1 million for tents to be set up in seven hospitals.
