DOLE ready to assist OFWs affected by Qatar, Kuwait travel ban
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will provide assistance to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) affected by travel bans imposed by Qatar and Kuwait due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III stated that the assistance will include PHP5,000, covering transportation expenses and meals for the affected OFWs.
OFWs impacted by these flight cancellations can seek help through roving Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officers, the OWWA counter at NAIA, or by calling the OWWA Hotline 1348.
The travel bans implemented by Qatar and Kuwait are projected to affect approximately 19,000 OFWs, based on previous processing data for Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs).
DOLE reported that 70 out of 103 overseas Filipinos infected with COVID-19 globally have recovered.
