Alice Guo to be under BI custody after cases resolved

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla stated that dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo should be under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) once all pending cases against her have been resolved.

Remulla emphasized that Guo's immigration case, which involves allegations of being a Chinese national named Guo Hua Ping and using a fake passport, takes precedence over other matters as it is non-bailable.

He suggested that after legal proceedings are settled, the BI should have primary custody, requiring permission from the DOJ to bring Guo to court.

The Justice Secretary highlighted that Guo's alleged alien status and attempt to pass as a Filipino are major violations of the law.

A potential deportation case against Guo is also being considered.

Guo was arrested in Indonesia after reportedly leaving the Philippines in July and returned on September 6.

Currently, Guo is detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Quezon City following a commitment order from a Tarlac court, though she was initially under Senate custody to testify.

A case for qualified trafficking against Guo is also up for resolution by the panel of prosecutors handling the investigation.

Some individuals in the Department of Foreign Affairs might also be involved as it is the only agency with the authority to issue passports.
