House split over probe on Alice Guo’s 'escape'
Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla ordered an investigation into how suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo allegedly left the Philippines despite being under an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO).
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were directed to probe how Guo managed to leave the country.
Remulla also ordered a probe into the possibility that Guo's legal counsels may have aided her departure, a sentiment echoed by Zambales 1st district Rep. Jefferson Khonghun.
Khonghun stressed that Guo could not have left without the involvement of government officials, particularly from the BI.
He also asserted the importance of including the dismissed mayor's lawyers in the investigation to determine their contribution to her getaway.
Guo submitted a counter-affidavit to the DOJ on Friday in response to a qualified human trafficking complaint linked to a raided POGO hub in Bamban.
Despite allegations of her departure, there have been reported sightings of Guo in the country after July 18.
