DOH Bicol confirms 2 COVID-19 Delta variant infections
Two cases of the Delta variant of the coronavirus in the Bicol Region, one each in Albay and Camarines Sur, have been detected.
The DOH Bicol confirmed the presence of the variant in a resident of Legazpi City, Albay, linked to a case in Malilipot, Albay, and another in Nabua town, Camarines Sur, who works in Bula town.
The father of the Nabua case also contracted the virus.
In addition to the Delta variant cases, DOH Bicol also detected 33 other cases involving the Alpha (UK) and Beta (South African) variants.
Director Dr. Ernie Vera stated that the Delta variant has the capacity to infect eight people and is more contagious, with transmission potentially occurring in as little as two minutes.
DOH Bicol urged the public to strictly follow minimum health protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.
