DOH: 4 fully vaccinated individuals infected with Delta variant had mild symptoms

The Department of Health (DOH) reported that four individuals infected with the Delta variant of COVID-19 were fully vaccinated and experienced only mild or asymptomatic symptoms.

Out of 119 confirmed Delta variant cases, four were fully vaccinated, five had received one dose, and 24 were unvaccinated, with 86 cases still under verification.

Among the vaccinated Delta cases, three had mild infections, and one was asymptomatic.

The DOH noted that two of the three Delta variant deaths were unvaccinated individuals, while the vaccination status of the third fatality is still being confirmed.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire emphasized that the current data indicates vaccines are effective, citing that vaccinated individuals have a better defense against variants.

The DOH is conducting a study to further understand the impact of COVID-19 vaccines on infections.
