PH monitors 8 active Delta variant cases

The Philippines is monitoring eight active cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19, who previously tested positive after recovering.

These individuals remain asymptomatic but are required to complete another 14 days of isolation.

The eight active cases include one from Manila, four from Cagayan De Oro, one from Misamis Oriental, and two returning overseas Filipinos.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario S. Vergeire noted that almost all have high-cycle threshold values, indicating low viral load and likely no longer infectious, though RT-PCR tests were positive.

The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed a total of 35 Delta variant cases, including three deaths, and is studying these cases further.

91 close contacts of the 16 Delta patients have been traced.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte mentioned the possibility of reimposing a stricter lockdown to curb the Delta variant.
