PGH confirms 21 Delta variant cases, 2 unvaccinated deaths

Twenty-one cases of the Delta variant were admitted and tested at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

Eight of these patients were admitted, with two deaths occurring in the emergency room and intensive care unit respectively.

The two fatalities were unvaccinated individuals.

Of the remaining patients, five were healthcare workers who tested positive for the Delta variant, and all were fully vaccinated with mild symptoms.

These healthcare workers received either AstraZeneca or Sinovac vaccines.

PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas Del Rosario stated that vaccination modifies the disease to a milder form, protecting against hospitalization and death.

The hospital is currently on heightened alert and bracing for a possible surge of the more contagious variant.
