Classes suspended in Metro Manila, several other areas due to Severe Tropical Storm Opong

Classes in all levels, both public and private, in Manila were suspended for Friday and Saturday, September 26-27, 2025, in anticipation of Severe Tropical Storm Opong.

Malacañang suspended government work and classes at all levels in Metro Manila and large areas of Luzon and the Visayas.

Apart from Metro Manila, work and class suspensions were ordered in Biliran, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Masbate, Romblon, Sorsogon, Aklan, Albay, Antique, Batangas, Bataan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Capiz, Cavite, Catanduanes, Guimaras, Iloilo, Laguna, Leyte, Marinduque, Negros Occidental, Oriental Mindoro, Rizal and Quezon.

The Quezon City government also suspended face-to-face classes today in all levels, both public and private, encouraging synchronous or asynchronous modes of learning.

The local governments of Muntinlupa and Las Piñas also suspended classes in all levels today.

Pasig, Taguig, Malabon, Caloocan, Pasay and Pateros suspended classes for kindergarten and early childhood development center pupils.

Signal No. 3 was hoisted over parts of Samar and Bicol as Opong moved closer to Eastern Visayas, bringing storm-force winds, heavy rains and the threat of coastal surges.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, Severe Tropical Storm Opong was located 195 kilometers east-northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center and gusts of up to 135 kph.
