BCDA converts New Clark City buildings into 1000-bed Covid hospital

Two government buildings in New Clark City have been converted into a 1,000-bed Covid hospital by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to address the country's rising number of coronavirus cases.

This initiative is part of the government's broader plan to establish quarantine facilities, with the Philippine International Convention Center, World Trade Center in Pasay, and Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila also being prepared as treatment and health monitoring facilities.

Previously, the Athletes' Village in New Clark City served as a quarantine area for individuals returning from Hubei, China.

Other quarantine facilities include the Asean Convention Center in the Clark Freeport Zone, the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, and twelve other facilities in Metro Manila.

Donations of free electricity from Manila Electric Co., free internet services from PLDT, Inc. and Globe Telecom, and free food will support these facilities.

As of Monday, April 6, 2020, the Philippines has reported 3,246 COVID-19 cases, with 152 deaths and 64 recoveries.
