AFP receives P200M worth of medical supplies for COVID-19 front-liners

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has received its share of essential medical equipment and supplies worth PHP200 million, donated for front-liners battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donated items, which arrived on March 21 and 28 via Philippine Air Force C-130 cargo planes at Villamor Air Base, were a donation from a local Filipino-Chinese community, a private company, and a private individual who wished to remain anonymous.

Key items in the donation include two Automated Nucleic Acid Extraction System machines, four Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) machines, 30,000 RT-PCR diagnostic kits, 25,010 medical protective suits, 292,300 face masks, and other protective gear.

The Automated Nucleic Acid Extraction System and PCR machines have been delivered to V. Luna General Hospital for installation.

The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) has inspected and confirmed that all PCR machines and diagnostic kits meet the World Health Organization's (WHO) standards.
