A total of 354 distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Saudi Arabia have successfully returned to the Philippines on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.
These OFWs were repatriated via a chartered Philippine Airlines flight that landed in Manila in the afternoon.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III instructed the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to provide all necessary assistance to the returning workers.
The majority of the repatriated OFWs were previously housed in "Bahay Kalinga" shelters in Riyadh and other temporary shelters in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia.
This repatriation initiative is part of the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) ongoing efforts to aid OFWs affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secretary Bello expressed hope that the repatriation would provide comfort to the OFWs as they reunite with their families.
Among the repatriated workers were groups employed by specific companies such as Jussur Emdad, Arkad Co., Abdullah Aldossary, Azmeel Contracting Co., and Rakan Trading.
