2 barangay security officers killed in Maguindanao del Sur shooting

Two barangay security officers were killed and three colleagues were wounded in a drive-by shooting in Barangay Labu-Labu, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur on Monday night, Jan. 27.

The victims were identified as a 17-year-old Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) member and Esmael Singh, 20, both residents of Barangay Labu-Labu Mother.

The wounded are Anwar Banalan, 20; Mohamad Husain, 30, and another 17-year-old male, all from Barangay Labu-Labu Mother.

The victims were manning a BPAT checkpoint at 7 p.m. when motorcycle-riding gunmen fired at them with an automatic rifle.

Police stated that the slain volunteer community watchman Hassen Kumamo was the intended target.

This is the second attack on BPAT members in Shariff Aguak in less than a week, with a previous incident on Jan. 22 resulting in one death and one injury.

Police are conducting a follow-up investigation and have identified several persons of interest.
