Zamboanga City Register of Deeds shot dead outside office

Jaybee Villarin Baguinda, the Register of Deeds for Zamboanga City and LRA Region 9 chief, was shot and killed outside his office on Friday.

The 57-year-old official was ambushed by a lone gunman while in his pick-up truck on Rizal Street, Barangay Zone 4.

The suspect fled on a waiting black Suzuki Raider motorcycle with an accomplice and headed towards Barangay Santa Catalina.

Baguinda was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to his injuries.

Zamboanga City Police director Colonel Kimberly Molitas condemned the "brutal" killing and stated they are pursuing two male suspects.

Mayor John Dalipe has directed local barangay officials to assist in the investigation.

This incident marks the fifth shooting in Zamboanga City this January, following the deaths of a couple and a separate shooting incident where a victim survived.
