14 returning students in Mindanao test positive for COVID-19

Fourteen students who arrived in Mindanao after being stranded in Cebu City have tested positive for COVID-19.

The students, who were part of the national government's Balik-Probinsiya program, arrived in two batches on May 16 and May 19.

Upon arrival, students were placed in isolation facilities in Maguindanao and Cagayan de Oro City.

One student in Maguindanao developed flu-like symptoms, prompting health officials to test all returning students.

Tests revealed 12 students in Maguindanao were positive, and two others from Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City also tested positive.

Dr. Elizabeth Samama, chief of the Maguindanao Provincial Hospital, expressed relief that the students were not immediately allowed to go home, preventing a wider outbreak.
