Davao City mayor tells M'lang to file charges vs COVID-19 positive student

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has instructed the local government of M'lang, Cotabato province to file charges against a 19-year-old male student who tested positive for COVID-19 and entered the province without proper coordination.

The student arrived in M'lang on May 6 via an ambulance carrying another patient from Davao City, bypassing official quarantine and coordination protocols.

He did not have the required 14-day health and quarantine certificate from Davao City, his place of origin.

The student developed symptoms on May 9 and underwent swab testing on May 14, with the results confirming he was positive for COVID-19 on May 17.

The student also has a co-morbidity of juvenile diabetes mellitus.

Mayor Duterte questioned why students, who are supposed to be under quarantine, are testing positive upon arrival in their hometowns.

She suggested that these students might have violated Enhanced Community Quarantine rules in Davao City by leaving their homes, leading to their infection.
