First COVID-19 fatality in Zamboanga Peninsula

A 94-year-old woman died on Tuesday morning at Zamboanga City Medical Center due to respiratory failure from pneumonia, becoming the first COVID-19 fatality in Zamboanga Peninsula.

The patient had been admitted with severe pneumonia and comorbidities, and was placed on a mechanical ventilator after being transferred from a private hospital.

There are currently 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, including eight in Zamboanga City; three patients remain hospitalized while six have recovered and were discharged.
