Yulo, Villegas flag bearers at Paris Olympics closing ceremony

Two-time gold medalist Carlos Yulo and bronze medal winner Aira Villegas will serve as flag bearers for the Philippines at the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday, August 11 (Monday, August 12 Manila time), the Philippine Olympic Committee confirmed.

Carlos Yulo made history by becoming the first male Filipino and the first gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal in the floor exercise and vault finals, marking a significant achievement for Philippine sports.

Aira Villegas achieved her country's highest boxing medal at the Olympics with a bronze in the women's 75kg event, marking her successful debut and rising as a new face of Filipina boxing and women's sports.

Other Filipino Olympians and sports officials still in Paris will join the closing parade at the Stade de France, including Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, Hergie Bacyadan, Eumir Marcial, Lauren Hoffman, Elreen Ando, John Ceniza, and Vanessa Sarno.

With boxing set to potentially gain a new lease on life for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, both Yulo and Villegas are expected to lead another strong medal campaign for the Philippines. The Olympians are scheduled to return to Manila on Tuesday and will be honored at Malacañan Palace by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
