Ombudsman may investigate VP Duterte’s alleged threats

Ombudsman Samuel Martires stated that his office could potentially take over investigations into Vice President Sara Duterte's alleged threats against key government officials, should it determine jurisdiction.

Justice Undersecretary Jesse Andres suggested the Ombudsman has authority to investigate government officials, prompting Martines to clarify that no investigation by the Ombudsman is currently underway.

Manila Rep. Manny Valeriano believes Duterte may be hoping for intervention from the Ombudsman and Sandiganbayan due to the nature of the case not involving graft and corruption.

Duterte did not comply with a subpoena from the NBI, citing an ongoing hearing by the House committee on good governance as her reason for absence.

Valeriano also questioned Duterte's request for copies of questions before facing the NBI, suggesting it could be part of delaying tactics.
