Rep Flores worries impeachment proceedings for VP Duterte are time-constrained

Bukidnon 2nd District Representative Jonathan Keith Flores expressed concerns over time constraints in the proceedings for the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte, noting limited session days and approaching Christmas break.

Flores highlighted that after a 10-day period given to Duterte to file an answer, there should already be movements with the proceedings, but the timeline is tight due to the number of session days left.

Batangas 2nd District Representative Jinky Luistro said they have to wait until the complaints are included in their business calendar before any further actions can take place, emphasizing that lawmakers will also be busy with preparations for the 2025 elections and other duties.

Civil society representatives filed two impeachment complaints against Duterte, which were endorsed by several lawmakers citing grounds such as betrayal of public trust and graft and corruption. The Office of the House Secretary General aims to transfer these complaints to the Speaker's office next week.

Previous House hearings investigated the alleged misuse of confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education, with Makabayan coalition doubling efforts to fast track the process at the lower chamber.
