Sara Duterte to continue Education Dept oversight after resignation

Vice President Sara Duterte stated on Tuesday that she will continue overseeing certain tasks at the Department of Education even after her resignation, which takes effect on July 19.

Duterte emphasized ongoing efforts in reviewing Grades 11-12 curriculums and addressing the employability of Grade 12 graduates, noting these initiatives can be built upon by her replacement.

She reiterated that becoming part of the political opposition is not yet in the picture and her priority is to ensure a smooth transition for the new DepEd secretary.

Duterte maintained that she remains on good terms with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying, 'Sa tingin ko magkaibigan pa rin kami ni President Bongbong Marcos (I think President Bongbong Marcos and I are still friends).'

When asked about the qualifications for the DepEd secretary role, Duterte clarified there is no requirement that the position must be filled by someone from the education sector.

She stressed that her current focus is on the transition to a new DepEd chief rather than discussing political matters.
