Rep Alvarez sees VP Sara's resignation as opp chance

Vice President Sara Duterte's resignation from her position as Education Secretary in the Marcos Jr. Cabinet has opened up possibilities for her to become a genuine opposition figure, according to Davao del Norte 1st District Representative Pantaleon Alvarez.

Alvarez emphasized that Vice President Duterte received more votes than President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the 2022 national elections and is highly trusted by the public, making her departure from the cabinet a significant loss for the administration.

Former Speaker Alvarez believes Duterte's decision to leave will provide her with greater freedom to serve the people without restrictions and potentially lead the opposition against the Marcos administration.

Makabayan bloc lawmakers in the House of Representatives questioned whether Duterte embodies traits of a true opposition leader, highlighting the importance of being pro-human rights and anti-corruption.

Despite this skepticism, Alvarez stated his full support for Vice President Duterte if she decides to represent the opposition, emphasizing that he trusts her decisions in navigating Philippine politics.
