VP Sara Duterte asks SC to dismiss HOR appeal on impeachment ruling

Vice President Sara Duterte has asked the Supreme Court (SC) to dismiss the House of Representatives' (HOR) appeal on its ruling that declared the impeachment complaint against her unconstitutional.

In her comment, Duterte said the House's arguments were 'mere diversions obsessed with trivia and blind to the decision's genuine core reasoning'.

The SC ruled in July that the Senate impeachment trial against Duterte violated constitutional provisions against multiple impeachment proceedings within a single year.

Duterte argues that under the Constitution, she should have had the opportunity to be heard on the draft Articles of Impeachment before they were transmitted to the Senate.

She contends that due process requires notice and an adequate opportunity to address allegations at the initiation stage, not just during trial.

The House maintains that filing a complaint by one-third of its members is sufficient under the Constitution to trigger transmission to the Senate for trial.
