UST beats NU-Nazareth, DLSZ wins against UP-IS

University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle-Zobel secured victories on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 87 Junior High School Basketball Tournament, improving their chances to advance to the Final 4.

UST defeated defending champion National University-Nazareth School with an 80-70 win at home, while DLSZ narrowly won against UP Integrated School with a 79-74 comeback victory.

Jhon Canapi led UST with 22 points and six rebounds, contributing to their crucial run in the third quarter that gave them a comfortable lead heading into the final period.

Ram Luna scored 20 points and made key plays late in the game for DLSZ, helping secure their fifth win of the season and maintaining control of fourth place in the standings.

UST head coach Noli Mejos emphasized the importance of playing cautiously as the tournament progresses to ensure a spot in the Final Four, while DLSZ coach Penny Laureaga motivated his team during a comeback attempt to stay competitive.
