UP wins UAAP badminton title, 10th overall

University of the Philippines (UP) secured a decisive 3-1 victory over Ateneo to win the UAAP Season 87 badminton title on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall, marking UP's tenth championship and first since their three-peat from Seasons 77 to 79.

Anthea Gonzalez played a pivotal role by winning two crucial matches, earning her the Most Valuable Player award for the season after defeating Maxene Olango in singles and teaming up with Kimberly Lao to win the doubles match against Olango and Feeby Ferrer.

Ateneo's Mika De Guzman won a hard-fought singles match but lost in doubles, ending Ateneo's five-peat bid as Ramos and her partner Dianne Libaton secured victory for UP in the crucial doubles match.

First-year UP head coach Ariel Magnaye praised his team's dedication and teamwork, highlighting their journey to reclaim the title after years of absence.
